| Men's Softball at Saint Nicholas Lutheran Church - 2009 Season |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The 2009 Saint Nicholas softball team didn't play particularly well early in the season, but definitely improved as the season went along. Splitting doubleheaders with #2 ranked Emmanuel Baptist and #4 ranked Dunkirk Baptist at the end of the year were definitely the highlights of the regular season. The team also got off to a slow start in the tournament, but then caught fire, knocking #5 ranked Jesus the Divine Word out of the tournament before running out of gas in the heat of the day. The youth movement on the softball team definitely continued this year. Last year's contingent of Andrew Dangin, Nick Demme, Brett White, and Andrew Wood were joined by Ben Cooper, Jake Gott, Reid Hyland, and Matt White this year. It continues to be a lot of fun watching these kids grow up and continue to improve. Just like last year, there was a great deal of improvement between the beginning of the year and the end of the year. Every single one of them has the potential to become a pretty good ballplayer as they each get bigger, stronger, and gain more experience. Having youth is great, but without the "wily veterans" the team would be in trouble. Bob Callis, Harris Cooper, Sean Demme, Jim Felbinger, Dave Hickin, Mike Hyland, Cliff Price, Eric Trickle, Craig White, Keith Williams, and Jerry Wood all supplied that veteran presence in the lineup this year. With the exception of Eric being out for a month or so with some cracked ribs, this group stayed healthy all year too. That certainly contributed to their good play. Our fans were as supportive as ever this year. A number of them sat through some cool nights and hot, humid afternoons to watch and cheer. On behalf of the team, thank you to all the fans that came out this year. Your support is very much appreciated. I hope that you will be joined by even more supporters next year (hint, hint!). This closes the book on the 2009 softball season. It won't be very long before the book for the 2010 season opens up. If you want to be part of the 2010 team, please talk to Tom Blatt or any of the players on the team. Looking ahead to future seasons, the team is always looking for more players to add to the roster. If you are interested in joining the team or just want to find out more information about the men's softball team, please contact Tom Blatt or any of the other players.
