COORDINATOR OF VOLUNTEER MINISTRY

The scallop shell with three drops of water (Triune reference) is a symbol of baptism. As baptized children of God, we are blessed to be a blessing. As the baptized we are called to be stewards of God's creation...thus, to serve (or volunteer).
Mission

To integrate new and existing members into the life of the congregation in order that the mission of the congregation may be carried out.

Worship Service Volunteer Calendar

Opportunities for Involvement
2008

Prayerfully consider how you can use your time & talents to God’s purpose this year. Here are the current volunteer opportunities:

  • Altar Care: A team member is needed to assist with altar care at the 9am service on the 5th Sunday of a month. Altar care involves working with another team member to set up the altar before the 9am service, clean up after the service, and set up the altar for the 11:15am service. If you like hands-on, behind the scenes work, this is the job for you!
  • Acolytes and Crucifers: Youth between 5th grade and 8th grade are eligible to be acolytes and crucifers. There will be a training session on Sunday, July 13, between the 9am and 11:15 am services, starting at 10:15am. You may come to learn more about this ministry opportunity or for a refresher course.
  • Assisting Minister: 7:45am Service: Help serve communion and lead prayer at the early service. Speak with Pastor Greg or Pastor Wendy to volunteer.
  • Facilities and Property Committee: This team will oversee the maintenance of all our buildings and of all the church grounds, and the work of our current teams that work in those areas. If you have skills and knowledge about maintenance of buildings and property and would like to join this ministry, please contact the office, the pastors, Ann Wolfgang, or Barbara Harris.
  • Newsletter Helpers: Every month, the newsletter is assembled and readied for mailing. But it’s not done by magical newsletter assembly gnomes! The assembly team of St. Nicholas members is looking for additions to the team, to join them in the fun of folding, stapling, and rubber banding. It takes about 2 hours, on a Thursday morning toward the end of each month. Contact Barbara Harris or Anna Kitzmiller.
  • Nursery Team Members: The more the merrier! The Evangelism and Outreach Ministry would like to increase the number of adults available to work in the nursery. That way, no team member serves too often, and will seldom miss a worship service. If you are willing to serve every other month, please contact Barbara Harris or Colleen Hyland.
  • Summer Communion Bread Providers: During the summer months we give our bread bakers a break from the heat and ask other members of the congregation to provide King's Hawaiian Bread for communion. Please consider participating in the Worship Ministry by signing up to bring 2 loaves of bread on one of the Sundays during the summer. The sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board.
  • Sunday Morning Hospitality Team Coordinator: Since last fall, over 30 congregation members have signed on to provide refreshments for Sunday morning hospitality. The coordinator for this team would contact team members to ask them to provide hospitality for a specific Sunday in the upcoming month. If you are interested in this ministry, please contact Barbara Harris at 410-286-3257, or bramharris@chesapeake.net
