Vacation Bible School

By REVEREND WENDY DEEBEN
“Then the little children were being brought to him in order that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples spoke sternly to those who brought them; but Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.’ And he laid his hands on them and went on his way.”
Matthew 19:13-15
It’s hard to believe that planning for Vacation Bible School has already begun. Before we know it, July 13 will be here and we’ll be surfin’ through the scriptures (this year’s theme).
Vacation Bible School is a wonderful opportunity for both children and adults to come for an experience of a lifetime. We’ll have classes for toddlers through 5th grade. Pastor Greg is also going to teach an adult class.
There are a variety of ways that you can participate. If attending a class isn’t something you’d like to do, there are a lot of volunteer opportunities from guiding a group of children, to crafts, to games, and snacks.
VBS is a great way to share the good news with others. During VBS we pass on the faith, not only to the children of Saint Nicholas, but also to those who participate from the community. By our words and our actions we demonstrate God’s love to children who may not have heard it. It’s amazing what children remember in their teens and their adult life. Some of the memorable experiences of church occur during moments like VBS. We each can touch someone so much that it stays with someone the rest of their life.
As Jesus said, “Let the children come.” Vacation Bible School is an opportunity for all of God’s children, regardless of age, to come and experience God through a fun and interactive way.
I encourage you to think about participating in VBS – either in a class or as a volunteer. It’s a great experience to hear the good news and share it with others. I’d also like to challenge our children and youth to bring as many friends as possible. (If they need an incentive, they can get me wet at some point during the week.)
If you are interested in learning more about VBS, please talk with Tierney Guido or Vicki Williams.
I hope to see you there!
