Biography of Patricia Covington

Vicar Patricia Covington

Patricia Covington, (formerly Vicar Patti) was born in Seattle, Washington, and moved with her parents to the Washington DC area when she was still an infant. She grew up primarily in Arlington, Virginia, with a year and a half break when the family lived in the Marianas Islands.

Patti has been married to Rick Covington since 1970. They have three grown children of whom they are very proud, and three wonderful grandchildren. Rick and Patti have a home in Harrisonburg Virginia, but during her internship, Patti lived in North Beach Maryland. Rick has a business in Harrisonburg and he stayed there to work during the week and joined Patti on the weekends. They enjoy walking together, spending time with family, and have a goal of visiting all fifty states together.

Patti graduated from James Madison University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Family Studies. Before going to Seminary, Patti was a dental health educator and chairside assistant in a pediatric dental practice in Harrisonburg.

The former Vicar is something of an ecumenist. Having been baptized in the Roman Catholic tradition, she became an Episcopalian as a child and was confirmed in that tradition. She finally came home when she became a Lutheran as an adult. She had begun reading the writings of Luther and was hooked!

Some activities that Patti enjoys are gardening, quilting, and crocheting, meeting new people, and playing with her pets. There are three cats and two dogs in the family menagerie. She loves to travel and to walk for exercise. Walking gives her an excuse to be outdoors enjoying God’s creation, and she can be found outside walking in all kinds of weather. She has particularly enjoyed walking along the Bay while in Maryland.
